Code of conduct

Study and work in our working group presents opportunities for interacting with colleagues from all over the world with many different cultural backgrounds. Our goal is to create an environment where everyone feels welcome, safe, and accepted. If problems or misunderstanding in communication arise and are identified, they should be addressed promptly. Everyone, including faculty, staff, students, and visitors, is responsible to behave such that this environment is constantly improved. We recognize and value the different experiences and expectations that everyone brings to our group. Collegial interactions, both academically and personally, are expected at all times, and people must be treated with respect regardless of seniority, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, nationality, ethnicity, and religion:

  • Intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory and demeaning actions and behavior will not be tolerated.
  • We take the experience, opinions, and personal values of everyone seriously. We accept that different opinions and values exist.
  • We work towards creating a safe environment for everyone identifying as LGBTQI+.
  • We act against negative stereotypes relating to an individual’s or a group’s characteristics.
  • Stalking, following, unwelcome physical contact or sexual attention without explicit consent will not be tolerated.
If our code of conduct is violated, appropriate consequences will be considered in accordance with the Ethical Principles Guidelines of KIT, the Guidelines for “Fighting Sexual Harassment at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology", and the “Code of Conduct of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology". Anyone asked to stop inappropriate behavior is expected to comply immediately.

People who feel affected by inappropriate behaviour are encouraged to report this behavior using any option listed here.

If you or somebody you know is experiencing stress or depression, of if you or somebody you know are victims of (sexual) violence: You are not alone and there is help!
